Here is a list I made of advantages and disadvantages of Free and Paid Hosting. Well, the advantages and disadvantages really depend on each hosting company, here I am using the most common webhosts as parameter. Free Hosting: Advantages You can have it for free. You can choose between using a subdomain (yourname.companyname.com) or a domain (have to pay for it - yourname.com). Disadvantages You don't have technologies such as PHP, MYSQL, ASP, etc. The webhost will display ads on your page or would request you to post on their forums (nice way of paying for your forums). Offers lower space and bandwith than paid hosting. You don't have 24/7 support. Paid Hosting: Advantages You have technologies such as PHP, MYSQL, ASP, etc. You wouldn't have ads on your site or would have to post on forums. Bigger space and bandwith than in free packages. You have 24/7 support. The uptime of the server is usually better than on free web hosting services. Disadvantages You have to pay for it. You must have a domain name (some hosting offers give you a domain when you pay for a hosting package).
